I decided to post this photo today because we recently had the same thing happen to us that you see in the photo I posted. Jan and I were shooting a wedding up in Holmen and a guest got out her very large I pad and started shooting video with it. The real problem for us was the I pad was right in the middle of my shot every time she held up her I pad. Fortunately we had other cameras in use, but my shot would have been a wonderful one to use in the edit.  I ended up having to move to another location. It was not the ideal location to be in, but I didn’t have a choice. I always know that guests are going to come in with their cameras, phone cameras and phone video, but now that we have these very large I pads, I’ve noticed that these pieces of technology are creating an eye sore in our edits. It is so important to me that we can give our couples the best shots possible for their wedding. I know that you can’t tell your guests that these are not allowed, or maybe you can, but I felt that I should try to educate our future brides and grooms what a shot in your edit could like if more guests start to bring in their I pads.  In this case and also in ours, I had only one I pad to deal with, but with more people purchasing them, we predict that there will be more of these popping up during a ceremony.  Wouldn’t it look kind of funny as you are walking down the aisle and you see about a dozen of these staring at you? We now make sure that this topic is discussed with our clients at our meetings. It really is so important to us that our couples get the best final project that we can give them.

Jan and I spent all of last week in Charleston, SC learning about new things in our business. It never ceases to amaze me about all the new equipment technology that keeps us on our toes.  Always some new piece of gear that has to be learned or some new update for your latest editing suite, etc. At times it seems a challenge to keep up with it, but to stay on top of your game in the film making business, you really have to dig in and just do it. Just like the Nike commercials.  We also had some wonderful speakers that talked about the “running your business” side of things. Gave us a whole new approach to take on for 2012. It was very refreshing to learn to new techniques and business ideas to incorporate for Artistic Video Productions. So….here is to a wonderful 2012 and looking so forward to next year’s IN FOCUS convention!

We are excited to have our new website and blog up and running. With 2012 now here we have so many wonderful things on our to do list.
